I’ve spent many weekends in NYC, thanks to AA’s low fares (we are talking about $120-$130 Y RT fares in JAN/FEB between ORD and LGA). Even on these cheap fares, complimentary EXP upgrades are still working out nicely online 6 hour defensive driving course, and about half (maybe more) of the segments are upgraded at the 100 hour window. AA still manages to complete a full meal service on this short flight (very much appreciated) norsk casino guide names, though it may occasionally be rushed due to the short flying time/turbulence/or a rather relaxed and slower crew. With flights nearly every hour/two hours of the day, it is definitely convenient enough to plan weekend trips to NYC. The brand new 738 with BSI made it all the more exciting!

All reconfigured/new 738s with BSI have the gliding seats. For me, as a moderately tall and somewhat narrower person, I have no problem sitting comfortably in Y. So to the debate of the F seats on an MD 80 vs the F seats on the 738s, I’d say I really don’t notice much of a significant difference. The new seats seem more spacious, and compliment the futuristic feel to the plane with the sky interior.

First trip report! This short report will focus on the experience aboard one of AA’s new 738 planes configured with Boeing Sky Interior. The return segment can be considered a “holistic” review of the soon to be retired MD80s. This is similar to a comparison of the AA's newest incoming aircraft, the 738, and AA's oldest, soon to be retired MD80s. **Actual trip was taken and TR written a while back in February.**
The cabin still had that new car smell and was complimented by seats and carpet that looked clean and inviting, rather than old and gross. The updated window and sidewall design make the cabin feel bigger as well. The LED lighting system was used in both the blue sky and sunrise modes during our flight.
The new slimline seats were comfortable and it was very nice not having someone reclining into me. It was also strange to have a seat that felt solid and supportive…and not overly worn in…big fan of the adjustable headrests on these as well.
First, some info on the new 737-800s…

Basically the entire reason I wrote this post is because I was flying back from Vegas over the weekend and got caught on a US Airways A321 that didn’t have AC power and my phone died halfway through, making for a pretty boring flight. American Airlines is undergoing a massive effort to revitalize their fleet and incorporate new, fuel-efficient aircraft. While it will be great to see all of the new aircraft come online, until that day we are occasionally forced to fly on some very old aircraft. This is only compounded by the addition and cross-fleeting of US Airways jets after the merger was completed. Understanding the various aircraft types can be confusing but it’s important to know which of the American Airlines jets you’ll be flying because it can drastically change your flight experience. Let me fill you in so you don’t get caught on a dud next time you fly.

United has four versions of this plane so it’s pretty much a gamble on which version you’re gonna end up in. Now, let’s look at American Airlines’ Boeing 737-800:
Last month we traveled on AA from Chicago to Dallas on some version (1 or 2) of a brand new 737-800. Because of medical problems, we paid extra to sit in the first row (the bulkhead) of the main cabin section. We had window and center seats. The left part of our seat belts were encased in foot long leather sleeves making it virtually impossible to comfortably rest our left arms. The leather sleeve could not be moved. This, compounded by the fact that although we had leg room slots 3 reel, the seats were very narrow — deliberately designed to be snug. And the same width as any other seat behind us. Moreover, upon reading reviews of these planes I have learned that paying extra for preferred seats does not get us wider seats. The advantage is we get on first and deplane among the first as well. This was the most uncomfortable flight I have ever experienced and left us both with severe pains in our backs.
Yes, as passengers we are at the mercy of airlines and subject to all forms of misrepresentation. And we simply have to suck it up.
Orlando-Orlando International (MCO)
Tickets were very cheap (American Domestic is becoming very aggressive in their pricing). Flown on a very new 2nd Configuration plane, featuring the Boeing Sky Interior, new seats slots 3 reel, and a nice IFE + expensive WiFi with good selection. I found the new interior to be well made, functional, intuitive, relaxing, and generally much better and updated than the older 737 NG. However, the seats were a big letdown.
